James and Margaret Moore ate a lunch of ox tongue with their two remaining sons, Eugene and Gerald and their lodger, Jean Ross. Margaret had bought and cooked 2 small tongues the previous day. All became very unwell. James had left immediately after lunch for his friend, Patrick Purcell's home in Burwood. Although a doctor was called he died the following day. The others, failing acquisition of a doctor, were admitted to Sydney Hospital and recovered. An inquest was held.
