While Edward travelled in steerage on each occasion both ships contrasted significantly in terms of size, speed and passenger numbers. — May 30, 1874 The Loch Tay arrived at Melbourne: Edward and his family arrived in Melbourne after a trip where they experienced several days of very unpleasant weather in the southern ocean during the latter part of their journey. One of the seamen fell overboard and despite attempts could not be retrieved due to the gale.
