The ship had hauled anchor and left Port Phillip the previous day anchoring outside Queenscliffe to allow passengers to settle into their quarters prior to departing completely. — January 26, 1867

Departure from Glasgow for Melbourne: Edward, his grandmother, Colina McPherson and his aunt Maggie McPherson were among the 43 1/2 statue adults certified as aboard the Loch Tay by Captain Scott when it departed Glasgow for its possible 120 day trip to Melbourne. While Edward travelled in steerage on each occasion both ships contrasted significantly in terms of size, speed and passenger numbers. — May 30, 1874
The Loch Tay arrived at Melbourne: Edward and his family arrived in Melbourne after a trip where they experienced several days of very unpleasant weather in the southern ocean during the latter part of their journey. One of the seamen fell overboard and despite attempts could not be retrieved due to the gale. Given the size of the ship it is quite likely that Edward had seen him going about his duties. — August 24, 1874
