Sale of strychnine to man who suicided: An older well known church-goer and Mason bought strychnine from JHB Holdsworth stating it was to kill rats. He later committed suicide after failing yet again to obtain work. Before dying he admitted to ingesting strychnine and left a letter for his wife. John Holdsworth confirmed at inquest that the strychnine had been bought from him. — June 20, 1880
