The "Weekly Times" had a supplement on Prahran in its issue on 2nd May 1896. It's first feature was on Mr A H Holdsworth, the scope of his dental work and the importance of anaesthetics. It was a positive article at an important time in the Holdsworth's lives; two weeks before the birth of their first child and a time when their lives would change unexpectedly. Also, Herb's interest in mechanical dentistry as an occupation was a hot topic among dentists in the later part of the 19th century.

Margaret Holdsworth died intestate following the birth if her son, Newton. Alfred became administrator of her estate. Assessment of personal assets came in under £400. Margaret was also entitled to one quarter of her father's estate. In 1894 an agreement between parties fixed Margaret's share of her father's estate at just over £10,000 with two thirds going to the child of her marriage and the remainder to her widower. Alfred bought properties in Prahran using the money as his own causing complaints from Margaret's side of the family. Several court hearings resulted in agreement that Alfred would hand over £10,000, Newton's share of his mother's estate, and a specific trustee company was to manage Newton's estate. Newton had turned 17 by the time it was finalised.
