Limited research shows a Ruth Bateman, nee McDowell bearing children and later dying in Warrnambool in 1887. Other records show a 36 year old Lucy McDowell dying in Melbourne in 1873. The following year a 7 year old Nellie McDowell travelled to the UK and 10 years later a 17 year old Nellie Hargrave, daughter of Lucy McDowell, father not listed, died of consumption in Prahran.
