A precis of a document in the Derbyshire Archives identified George as deceased. It involved the transfer of land with rights of inheritance and sale from the late John Merry, Dorothy, relict of his son, George, and William Dakin who was John's executor. The date was reported to be 18 June 1657.

George may even have been dead before 4th Oct. 1651 as he was not mentioned in his father's 1651 will whereas Dorothy was referred to as "daughter", a common wording for daughters-in-law, in addition to George's mother and brother, Gilbert.
