One of the witnesses… William was a farmer from Lower Plenty and Jessie was a spinster from Richmond. One of the witnesses was Jessie's brother, James Miller Arnot. The signature of the other witness is less clear. It is that of Margaret, maybe Arnot. Married by a Baptist minster according to the rites of the Baptist Church. William had also signed that he was a member of the Presbyterian Church. The record identifies the location as that of "the house of W Arnot - Richmond". I have never found such a person, apart from a bookseller in St Kilda. However, Jessie's brother, James Miller Arnot did reside in Richmond and he was a witness so I wonder if a mistake was made. |
