Administration to widower. Assessment of personal assets came in under £400. Margaret was also entitled to one quarter of her father's estate. In 1894 an agreement between parties fixed Margaret's share of her father's estate at just over £10,000 with two thirds going to the child of her marriage and the remainder to her widower. Alfred was taken to court for breech of trusteeship due to him not separating Newton's inheritance from his own assets using money to purchase property.

This object tells us a little of the world Margaret lived in; one needing candle power. Does it also show she had a sense of play in enjoying the idea of an owl lighting her way or was an owl a normal motif for light in late Victorian era Victoria? She died within a year of marriage so it's likely to have been a wedding present. Was there another for Alfred? Alternatively it may have been part of the necessities for setting up house, but if so, why the initials?
